Huron City Schools names new superintendent

HURON – Huron City Schools announced Thursday that Dr. James Tatman has been named their new superintendent.

Dr. Tatman currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer for the Olmsted Falls City School district. He previously was a teacher for Huron City Schools.

“I am honored and humbled to be returning to Huron where I started my career as a classroom teacher,” Dr. Tatman said. “Through the entire process, it was clear that the district has a rich tradition of pride and excellence. I look forward to working with the Board, the leadership team, all of our staff and the community to continue the excellence in education Huron is known for.”

The Board of Education vote on hiring Dr. Tatman at a special meeting on April 11.

“We are very excited about Dr. Tatman coming to Huron as our next superintendent. While our search identified a strong candidate pool, Dr. Tatman impressed the board throughout the entire process with his knowledge and experience,” Huron Board of Education President Jody Mast said. “We believe Dr. Tatman has the ability to unite not only the community, but also faculty, support staff, and students. His vision for the district will involve many voices from all stakeholders. This is an extremely important and exciting opportunity for our district.”

If the board approves his contract, Dr. Tatman will start in August. Until then, Dr. Julie McDonald, who is Huron City Schools’ director of curriculum and instruction, will continue to serve as interim superintendent. Dr. McDonald has served as interim superintendent since February, when Jon Ruf resigned from the interim position.

“Dr. Tatman will be in the district meeting with faculty and staff and attending events over the next four months in anticipation of a smooth transition and strong start to the 2022-2023 school year,” Mast added,

Dr. Tatman officially replaces Dennis Muratori, who resigned from Huron City Schools in June 2021.
