Police Blotter for the week of July 4

HURON – Below is a summary of Huron Police reports from between July 4 to July 10.

On July 4 at 1:34AM, police arrived at the Comfort Inn for a person who had fallen in the parking lot. The person was found to be conscious and intoxicated.
On July 4 at 2:02AM, police observed a vehicle traveling northbound on Rye Beach Road without headlights. Police pulled the driver over and advised her of the headlights. The driver was unable to provide a driver’s license, but provided a social security number. Police found that the driver had an active license forfeiture suspension through Sandusky Municipal Court. The driver was cited for Driving Under Suspension (UM) and Driving Without Headlights (MM). A woman arrived at the scene to pick the vehicle up.
On July 4 at 11:41AM, police arrived at a South Court house for a theft. A man said that he believed his downstairs neighbor, who is he in the process of evicting, stole two boat chairs from his downstairs patio. Police told the man that this is a civil matter and that he could attach this to his eviction complaint.
On July 4 at 2:08PM, fire and police arrived at the area west of the pier for a jet ski accident. Police observed two men assisting a woman, who may of had a broken noise. One of the men said that the woman hit a wave and the handle bars stuck her. The woman was transported to the emergency room.
On July 4 at 10:09PM, police arrived at Huron Street for a report that a semi-driver had threatened to shoot a man. Police found the man on Main Street by the St Peter’s gym. The man, who appeared to be shaken up, said that he could hear the truck’s generator running in-front of his Huron Street Airbnbs. He said he got into a brief verbal altercation with the driver, and, during the altercation, the driver said “I will take care of that” and made a motion that the man believed made it look the driver was getting a firearm. Police then spoke with the driver, who said he offered to move his truck and denied getting into a argument with the man and having a firearm. He allowed police to search the tryout. They found no firearms.
On July 5 at 8:58AM, police arrived at Cornell’s Foods for found property. Police spoke to a man, who’s name was on a driver’s license found in the found wallet. He said that he was driving home and asked that his brother pick the wallet up. The bother later arrived at the station and picked up the wallet.
On July 5 at 9:21AM, police arrived at Taylor Avenue for a sink hole. A man showed police a small hole in the roadway. Police put cones around the hole and contacted the street department.
On July 5 at 2:03PM, police area at the Rye Beach Pier for trespassing. The complainant said that out of state people were on the pier and refused to leave. When police arrived, they found a truck with Florida registration. Police spoke to the driver. He said that a Google search stated that the park was public. Police told the man that the park was private and gave him directions to Lake Front Park.
On July 5 at 5:04PM, police arrived at Pied Piper for an infant left in a vehicle. When police arrived, the found the vehicle in the parking. The vehicle had two adults and three children in the it. Police spoke with the adults. They admitted that they left the infant in the car, but said that they kept the windows open. Police then spoke with the complainant who said that he saw the two leave the infant in the car for about ten minutes, while the ordered their food. Police told the two that the case would be forwarded to the prosecutor.
On July 5 at 6:23PM, police arrived at the Krebs Cove Apartment for telecommunications harassment. A woman showed police that she believed were from the building’s owner. The messages asked for money and pictures of the woman. Police were able to confirm that the texts were not from the owner.
On July 5 at 9:54PM, police arrived at Nickel Plate Beach for a vehicle lockout. Police were able to unlock the vehicle.
On July 5 at 10:46PM, police arrived at the Krebs Cove Apartments for a physical domestic. When police arrived, they could a female crying inside in the apartment and saw fresh blood splatter outside the apartment. Police knocked on the apartment door and announced themselves; however, the door remained locked. Police then requested the deputies from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office come to the scene. When they did, police and deputies forced entry into the apartment. They found two men and one woman. At gunpoint, police ordered the three out of the bedroom. The apartment was in disarray. Police found yellow pills under the bed, loose marijuana scattered throughout the apartment, blood and water on the floor, a bloody butter knife, broken cellphones and clothing scattered across the floor, contraband, and alcoholic beverage containers. Police spoke with the woman, who said that she was driving and her noise got busted, but wouldn’t say how it happened. Due to her noise appearing to be broken, fire transported her to the hospital. Man #1 said that a dog had bitten his hand and denied any physical altercation happening. Man #2 said that all three of them had been drinking and man #1 and the woman got into a physical altercation.Police charged man #1 with Assault (M1).
On July 6 at 1:19AM, police arrived at Latanick Equipment for an alarm. Police found the exterior doors to be safe and no signs of forced entry.
On July 6 at 4:41PM, police arrived at Cleveland Road for a traffic crash. Police found that vehicle #2 was hit by vehicle #1, when vehicle #2 turned left in front of vehicle #1.
On July 7 at 1:38PM, police arrived at Lakeway Manufacturing for menacing. The owner said that he had gotten into a verbal argument with a man who had quit earlier that day. He said that the man was upset about his paycheck being held until his accounts receivable with the company had been paid in full. He said that before the man left the parking lot, he said “I know where you live.” Police unsuccessfully attempted to contact the former employee by a phone number given to them by Lakeway Manufacturing.
On July 8 at 12:21AM, police arrived at a the Cleveland Road Shell/Hy-Miler for two people causing problems. The clerk said that two men came into the store to cash a lottery ticket; however, he told them that they couldn’t, due to it being past midnight. He said that the two men then became angry. He said that they called him the n-word twice, before they left. Police found the two men walking down Rye Beach Road. One man said that was upset about not being able to cash his lottery ticket. He said that he called the clerk the n-word, due to the clerk giving him the middle finger. Police told the men not to return to the store until the following day.
On July 8 at 6:04AM, police arrived at the BP/Mickey Mart for a juvenile trying to buy tobacco products. The clerk said that the boy had walked into the store at around 5AM and attempted to buy tobacco products. When asked for his ID, the boy left the store. The clerk said that about an hour later, the boy came back with mask and a hood over his head. He then tried to buy the tobacco products with his mom’s ID. Police then spoke to the boy, who denied attempted to make the first purchase, but did admit to the second attempt. The boy said that he was from Indiana and was staying at the Comfort Inn. Police then brought the boy to the hotel, where his dad was waiting for him. Police spoke to the dad about the incident and asked that the boy not return to the BP/Mickey Mart.
On July 8 at 7:15PM, North Olmsted Police reported that they had a man in custody who had a warrant through Huron Municipal Court. The man was later transported to the Erie County Jail.
On July 8 at 7:28PM, police arrived at the SR2 overpass to assist the Ohio State Highway Patrol with a traffic crash.
On July 8 at 10:26PM, fire and police arrived at the Sandpiper Cove Apartments for a dumpster fire. Police spoke with several residents, who all said that they saw no one around the dumpster leading up to the fire.
On July 8 at 11:57PM, police arrived at World Auto Parts for alarms. Police found a door to be unlocked. They searched the building, and everything appeared to be in order. Police left a voicemail to the last know emergency contact.
On July 9 at 3:55AM, Norwalk Police reported they had a man in custody who had a warrant from Huron Municipal Court. The man was transported to the Huron Police station, where he posted bond. He was released to his father.
On July 9 at 2:41PM, police arrived at Commerce Plaza for a traffic crash. A truck driver said that he had struck a stop sign. Due to damage caused by the accident, the stop sign was unable to be put back in a upright position. Police contacted the street department for a replacement. The driver was cited for turning at a intersection.
On July 9 at 4:48PM, police arrived at a Stedman Street house for a attempted burglary. A woman said that she noticed the attempt while checking on the house, which is owned by her late mother. Multiple things were out of place, and a trail camera was missing. The interior of the house was found to be in order. The woman requested more patrol in the area.
On July 9 at 9:45PM, police ran a random compliance check on a vehicle driving on Main Street. Police found that the driver was under child support suspension. Police pulled over the driver. He said that he was unaware of the suspension, but said it made sense. The driver was cited for child support suspension (UM).
On July 10 at 9:20PM, police spoke with a woman for a menacing complaint. She said that on the previous night, at Huron Lagoons Marina, a man threatened to fight her and her son. The woman said that she was a friend of the man’s ex-wife and believed that that is the reason for the altercation. She said that she would like police to tell the man to have no further contact with her or her son. Police spoke to the man. He said that that was the first he had heard of the incident, due to him being intoxicated. Police told the man to have no further contact with the woman or her son.
On July 10 at 10:55AM, police arrived at a Forest Hills house for a harassment complaint. A man said that his neighbor had leaned trash cans up against his daughter’s car, which was parked in front of his neighbor’s house. Police spoke with the neighbor, who said that the man’s daughter shouldn’t have parked in front of her house. Police told the neighbor that the car was parked legally.
On July 10 at 11:15AM, a man arrived at the police station for a golf cart inspection. After a $25 fee was paid, police inspected the vehicle. After meeting all of the requirements, the owner was issued a copy of the form and an inspection sticker was placed on the vehicle.

On July 10 at 5:25PM, police arrived at the Connemara Townhouses for a domestic. Police found a man and woman in the residence. The woman said that he got mad at the woman for using his bank account, which she claims is shared. she said that he yelled in her face and threw her cigarettes out the back door. She said that he then told her to leave. The man said a similar story about getting mad about the bank account. The woman then left the residence.
On July 10 at 6:19PM, police arrived at a Columbus Avenue house for a trespassing complaint. A woman said that she has been visited by a former acquaintance of her ex-husband six times, since the end of May. Police spoke with the man and told him not to return to the house.
On July 10 at 10:31PM, police arrived at the boat ramp for a welfare check. The complainant said that they heard a child screaming from a ice cream truck. Police found a man and his daughter in the truck. The man said that he had stuck his daughter in her butt, due to her misbehaving. Police then spoke with the girl separately, she said her father stuck her in her face and that he does this daily. Police then spoke to the father again. He admitted to striking her in the face. The man said that both he and his daughter go to counseling. Police then left and send the report to children’s services.
On July 10 at 11:11PM, police arrived at a Riverside Drive house for a disturbance. A woman said that a man was attempting to take items from the house. Police spoke with the man, who said that he was attempting to gather his items, before he moved out of the house. He said that he would be out of the house by 12PM on July 12.
