First case of Delta variant confirmed in Erie County

SANDUSKY – The first case of the highly contagious Delta variant of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Erie County, the Erie County Health Department announced Friday.

The individual who tested positive is unvaccinated. They are currently isolating in their home.

In a press release, Erie County Health Commissioner Pete Shade said, “By applying all the tools we have—getting vaccinated, masking, distancing and limiting indoor gatherings—we can reduce the spread of COVID-19 in Erie County.”

The CDC currently lists Erie County as having high community transmission of COVID-19. Erie County has a rate of 121 cases per 100,000 people in the past seven days and has a test positivity rate of 5.93%.
