Police Blotter for the week of June 27

HURON – Below is a summary of Huron Police reports from between June 27 to July 3.

On June 27 at 9:00AM, an employee from Huron Parks & Recreation turned in a Visa debit card they found at Lake Front Park.

On June 27 at 11:32PM, police arrived at First Presbyterian Church for a welfare check. A Church administrator said that a person was sleeping on the entrance walkway just off the parking lot. Police were able to wake the person. She said that she was traveling from California to Buffalo, NY and was stopping at churches along the way. She agreed to exit the property, which she did within an hour.

On June 27 at 2:15PM, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office reported that they had a man who had a warrant from Huron Munch Court in the Erie County Jail.

On June 27 at 2:22PM, police arrived at the Berlin Road Hy-Miler/Mobil for a vehicle lockout. Police were able to unlock the vehicle.

On June 27 at 3:28PM, a wallet was turned into the police department. The person who turned in the wallet said they found it at the Rye Beach Park. Police were able to find a name in wallet. This led them to contact the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office. They did not have a number for the owner, but did send a deputy to the address associated with them.

On June 27 at 7:35PM, a Lab Basset Hound mix was turned into the police department. The person who turned the dog in said that they found it on Oakwood Avenue. The dog warden took custody of the dog.

On June 27 at 8:15PM, a French Bulldog was turned into the police department. The person who turned the dog in said that they found it on Center Street. The dog warden took custody of the dog.

On June 27 at 10:49PM, police arrived at a Forest Hills Drive house for a man making suicidal threats. Police were also advised that the man had firearms in the house. Police spoke to the man, who agreed to be transported to the hospital. Police then spoke to the man’s wife. She said that her husband often makes threats to her and was worried about what will happen to her after he is released from the hospital. Police referred her to Erie County Court of Commons Pleas for information on a protection order.

On June 28 at 9:52AM, police arrived at the pier for a vehicle lockout. Police were able to unlock the vehicle.

On June 28 at 4:24PM, police arrived at a Center Street house for a vehicle lockout. A man said that his daughter’s purple mountain bike missing from the driveway of his residence in the afternoon.

On June 29 at 9:56PM, police observed at a vehicle driving without lights. Police pulled the car over. The driver said that she didn’t realize the lights weren’t on. Police then found that the driver’s license was suspended, due to a fee from Ashland Municipal Court. The driver said she was unaware of the suspension. The driver was cited for driving under a suspended license and warned for driving without lights. A driver with a valid license later arrived on scene to pick up the vehicle.

On June 30 at 7:51AM, police arrived at a Cleveland Road house for a possible overdose. Before police arrived, they were advised that a 10-year-old boy reported that his mother overdosed. Police found the woman sleeping in her bed. She said that she had only taken some aspirin and had a headache.

On June 30 at 4:03PM, police arrived at Admiral’s Point to assist the fire department with a combative patient. The patient ended up being transported to Firelands Regional Medical Center.

On June 30 at 4:35PM, the Erie County Jail reported that they had a woman who had a warrant from Huron Municipal Court in custody.

On June 30 at 8:30PM, the Erie County Jail reported that they had a man who had a warrant from Huron Municipal Court in custody.

On June 30 at 11:05PM, police arrived at a Cleveland Road house for a vehicle lockout. Police were able to unlock the vehicle.

On July 1 at 8:19AM, police arrived at a Forest Hills Drive house for a non-injury traffic crash. A woman said that a tow truck driver had hit her car, while trying to pick up her company car. The tow truck driver said that another vehicle had made it had to turn.

On July 1 at 8:55AM, police arrived at the Heron Cove Apartments for a welfare check. The complainant said that a baby was walking around the hallways unattended and unclothed. A woman said that her three-year-old son likely got out by opening a door. The boy appeared to be uninjured.

On July 1 at 2:30PM, an Anthem insurance card and Visa credit card were turned into the police station. Police were unable to find personal information for the name listed on the cards.

On July 1 at 9:06PM, police arrived the pier to assist the rescue squad with a man who had gotten stuck on the rocks. Police spoke with two witnesses, who said that the man was fishing at the lighthouse and said that he could not swim and was going to wait out the storm there. Fire then rescued the man. After they rescued the man, police found that he had an active warrant from the City of Cleveland. Cleveland Police said they didn’t wish to pick up the man. A third witness then told police that he saw the man who was rescued give the first two witnesses a bag of money. Police then spoke with the first two witnesses. They first denied the money transfer, then said that the man gave them $25 for rope, a finally admitted that he gave them money along with a small bag of marijuana. The marijuana was then taken by police and disposed of.

On July 2 at 12:38AM, police arrived at a Berlin Road apartment for a welfare check. The complainant said that his daughter might have been forced into her mother’s vehicle in Mansfield. Police spike to the mother. She said that she received a call to pick up her daughter at a family member’s house in Mansfield. She said that when she got down there, an argument had broken out between family members, and her daughter didn’t understand why she was being picked up. Police the spoke to the daughter. She said that, while at her sister’s house in Mansfield, her sister and her sister’s boyfriend got into an argument. She said that when her mother got down there, her sister and her sister’s boyfriend were not allowing her to leave. She said that she did leave Mansfield on her own will.

On July 2 at 12:10PM, police arrived at the Main Street Hy-Miler/Mobil for a theft. The manager said that a man put to vape pens into his sweatshirt pockets and then bought a Pepsi and packet of Skittles. The manager then showed police video of the incident. Police charged the man with petty theft. They were unable to contact him, so a warrant will be issued.

On July 2 at 2:21PM, police arrived at the Sandpiper Cove Apartments for a welfare check. The complainant said that he hasn’t spoken to his daughter in the past 48 hours. Police spoke to the daughter, who said that she left her phone and either her father’s or mother’s house.

On July 2 at 4:14PM, police arrived at a Lakeway Drive house for a sick raccoon on the porch. A man said that the raccoon had fallen from a tree. The raccoon appeared to be sick and was having seizures. Police then made sure the area was safe of any hazards. They then euthanized the animal.

On July 2 at 6:19PM, police arrived at a Bogart Road house for a dog complaint. A woman said her neighbor’s dog ran into her yard earlier that day. She said that she would like police to talk to the neighbor. Police spoke to the neighbor. She said that her dog did get out and run across the street, but did come back when she called for it. Police told the woman about the city’s ordinance regarding dogs.

On July 3 at 12:22PM, police arrived at a Main Street house for a vehicle lockout. Police were able to unlock the vehicle.

On July 3 at 4:05PM, a woman arrived at the police station for a child custody dispute. She said that she has full custody of her two kids, but their grandparents had visitation from 11AM Saturday to 11AM Sunday. She also said that their father was only allowed to see the kids in the presence of their father. She said that she was concerned about her kids safety that evening, due to them being with family who would be drinking and setting off fireworks. After being asked by police, the woman said that the grandparents lived in Berlin Heights, but the fireworks may be set off in Wakeman. Police told the woman to contact another police department, due to them not having jurisdiction in Berlin Heights or Wakeman. They also said that she would need to go to Erie County Common Pleas Court in regards to the custody dispute.

On July 3 at 4:49PM, police arrived at Civista Bank for an alarm. Police spoke to a man who said he was doing work with the ATM and was having trouble with the machine. The man provided his personal and company identification. Police stood by until the man finished his work.

On July 3 at 5:50PM, police heard a noise coming from the passenger tire of a cruiser. They found a screw/bolt in the tire thread. Police then replaced the tire.
