Local highway construction for the week of April 18

Here is a look at construction projects that are anticipated by the Ohio Department of Transportation to impact highways in Erie, Huron, Lorain, Ottawa, Sandusky, and Seneca counties on the week of April 18.

Erie County

U.S. 6, from the western Vermilion Corporation limits to the Lorain County line, and State Route 60, from the southern Vermilion Corporation limits to U.S. 6, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project and bridge work at the structure over the Vermilion River.

U.S. 6 at the truss bridge over the Vermillion River, between W. River Road and Park Drive, will close Monday, April 11 for one day as crews complete bridge repairs. The detour route for eastbound motorists will be U.S. 6 to SR 60, south on SR 60 to SR 2, east on SR 2 to SR 58, north on SR 58 to U.S. 6, and reverse for westbound motorists. All work is weather permitting and is subject to change. Estimated completion: Monday, April 11, 2022

Huron County

U.S. 20 along the Norwalk Bypass, from SR 99 to Cleveland Road, will have single lane closures as needed for bridge painting at structures along the bypass. Crews will begin work on the west end of the project. Estimated completion: October 2022

Lorain County

State Route 2, at the eastbound and westbound rest areas near the Lorain/Erie County line, will have shoulder closures for a highway lighting project. Crews will be installing cable and lighting foundations for new highway lighting. All work is taking place from the shoulders of the exit/entrance ramps, or outside the parking lot pavement areas. Construction vehicles will be moving around the rest areas and motorists should use caution as they enter and exit the rest areas. Estimated completion: June 2022

The U.S. 6 Charles Berry Bascule Bridge over the Black River, between Washington Avenue and Arizona Avenue, is closed to vehicular traffic due to a mechanical failure. The bridge remains open to pedestrian traffic and marine traffic. The date to reopen is yet to be determined.

SR 10, between U.S. 20 and I-480, will have eastbound and westbound lane closures for a resurfacing project.

The SR 10 eastbound exit ramp to U.S. 20 will close Monday, April 18 so crews can remove and replace the concrete median island. The detour route for eastbound motorists will be to continue east on SR 10 to the Alternate SR 83 exit, exit onto Alternate SR 83 Connector and re-enter onto SR 10 west, travel SR 10 west to the U.S. 20 exit. Estimated completion: Monday, April 25

Ottawa County

The following ramps will be closed for pavement repairs beginning Monday, April 25 through Friday, April 29:

  • Westbound SR 2 exit to SR 163 (exit 115)
    • Detour: westbound SR 2 to SR 358 to SR 163
  • SR 163 on-ramp to eastbound SR 2 (interchange on west side of Port Clinton)
    • Eastbound detour: Eastbound SR 163 to southbound SR 53 to westbound SR 2.
  • SR 163 on-ramp to westbound SR 2 (interchange on the east side of Port Clinton)
    • Westbound detour: Eastbound SR 2 to southbound SR 269 to westbound SR 2.
  • Westbound SR 2 will experience lane restrictions between Fremont Rd. and SR 53.
  • SR 2, between Lakeshore Dr. and SR 53 N, will experience lane restrictions for pavement repairs beginning Monday, April 25 through mid-May.

State Route 2, over Cedar Creek between Teachout Rd. and Donovan Rd., Jerusalem Twp., is closed for bridge replacement through mid-May. Detour: I-280 or SR 2 to SR 51 to SR 579 to SR 2.

State Route 269, between SR 163 and SR 2, Port Clinton/Marblehead, will experience lane restrictions for resurfacing beginning Tuesday, April 19 through mid-May.

Sandusky County

State Route 53, between Schwartz Rd. and the Ohio Turnpike, Fremont, may experience lane restrictions for Turnpike work. Additional restrictions may be announced.

Seneca County

State Route 100, between CR 58 and TR 44, Melmore, will be closed for a culvert replacement beginning Monday, April 25 through Friday, April 29. Detour: SR 103 to SR 67.

State Route 100, between County Road 58 and Riverside Dr., Tiffin, resurfacing will resume in spring 2022.
