Man charged with reckless homicide in-connection in fatal November boat crash

SANDUSKY – A 47-year-old man has been charged with the deaths of two men in connection to a fatal boat crash that occurred off Lake Erie, near the Cranberry Creek Marina in Huron, in November.

According to the indictment, Matthew Mooney, of Mansfield, is accused of operating a boat in an unsafe manner, which caused the deaths of Wayde Lafferty and James Muncy. He is charged with two counts of reckless homicide (F3) and one count of operation of a vessel in an unsafe manner (M3).

Mooney has plead not guilty to the charges and has posted a $40,000 bond.

According to the Mansfield News Journal, Mooney and four other individuals were competing in the Walleye Fall Brawl, a fishing derby, on the night of the crash.
