Sandusky City Schools drops mask mandate

SANDUSKY – Sandusky City Schools staff and students will no longer be required to wear face masks, CEO and Superintendent Dr. Eugene Sanders announced Friday evening.

Staff have been required to wear masks since September 7, after Sandusky High School and Sandusky Middle School went virtual for a week due to a rising number of COVID-19 cases. The mask requirement was expanded to students on a week later.

“This decision is supported by the data analysis, which show positive COVID-19 cases are decreasing,” a press release from the District stated. “While face coverings will not be required during the school day, staff and students they are still encouraged and recommended to wear if they choose to do so.”

Face coverings will still be required on district transportation vehicles, due to a state mandate requiring face coverings on public transportation vehicles.
