Cities declare snow emergencies, issue parking bans ahead of winter storm

Several local cities have declared snow emergencies and issued parking bans ahead of this week’s large winter storm.

Huron’s snow emergency and parking ban will go into effect at 5PM Wednesday and will remain until further notice. According to the City of Huron, “Street parking and parking in designated parking areas of the City of Huron will be prohibited

Norwalk’s snow emergency will go into effect at 7PM Wednesday and will remain until 7AM Friday. According to the Norwalk Police Department, “A parking ban is in effect anytime there is snowfall of 2 inches or more. This ban takes effect 1 hour after announcement by the Director of Public Service and Safety and continues until an announcement by the Director of Public Service and Safety that snow plowing operations have been completed.” Huron Insider will update is post if an announcement is declared.

Sandusky’s snow emergency and parking ban will go into effect at 5PM Wednesday and will remain until further notice. According to the City of Sandusky, “Any vehicle parked on [the streets highlighted in the image below] during that time may be ticketed and/or towed.” The city asks that residents asks that residents move their vehicle to a driveway or private lot; however, if they can’t, residents can use public city lots.

Sandusky Parking Ban (City of Sandusky)

Vermilion’s snow emergency and parking ban will go into effect at 6PM Wednesday, and the city will evaluate conditions on Friday. According to the Vermilion Police Department, “No vehicles are permitted to be parked on City streets for the duration of the emergency.”

The Village of Milan requires vehicles to be removed from streets when snow accumulation is 2″ or more.

UPDATE 8:30PM Friday: The parking bans for Huron, Norwalk, and Vermilion have been lifted. Sandusky’s remains in effect.

UPDATE 10:00AM Saturday: The parking ban for the city of Sandusky has been lifted, except for Shoreline Drive. The city asks that individuals do not park on Shoreline until the street has been cleared of snow curb to curb.
