Vermilion Local Schools extends winter break due to COVID-19

VERMILION – Vermilion Local Schools announced Sunday that they will be extending their winter break by one week.

A post on the district’s Facebook page said, “We have been closely monitoring the increase in COVID cases in our community and have determined, with input from the Erie County Health Department and state government officials, that extending winter break will be in the best interest of our students, staff, and community. We feel that this extended break time will help to decrease the spread of the virus in our community.”

Vermilion students will now return to school on Monday, January 10.

While school won’t be in session, after-school sports and practices will continue as scheduled.

Qualified students will receive funds directly from the State of Ohio for meals missed during the closure.

For EHOVE students, bus transportation will be available to and from Vermilion High School daily.

The district ended their post by saying, “These are very challenging times. We are doing the best we can to serve all students and families in a variety of situations.”
