Medical issue causes crash on SR 269

BELLEVUE – According to a report from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, a Thursday evening crash on Portland Road in Groton Township was caused by a driver having a medical issue.

According to the report, the crash took place when the driver of a 2008 Chevrolet Colorado, which was stopped at a stop sign at Portland Road and State Route 269, had a medical issue that caused him to drive into the intersection and strike a 2005 Honda Civic. The Colorado spun in a circle and overturned in the middle of the intersection. The Civic went off the left side of the road and came to rest in a yard.

North Central EMS responded to the scene for both drivers. The 68-year-old driver of the Colorado was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center.
