Erie County Healthcare Coalition to conduct disaster preparedness exercise

SANDUSKY – The Erie County Healthcare Coalition will be conducting a disaster preparedness exercise with several Erie County healthcare facilities on Tuesday, November 16.

The exercise will simulate a series of bomb threats at the healthcare facilities. Each facility will be exercising internal plans as well as coordinating across agencies for functions such as evacuation. The exercise will not interrupt normal operations at participating facilities.

“Our emergency response community is committed to these coordinated exercises to be better prepared for a wide variety of scenarios,” shares Tim Jonovich, Director of Erie County Emergency Management. “All agencies and partners will be evaluated on their response plans, and the results of the evaluation will better prepare us in the event of a major incident in our area.”

Area agencies that will be participating in the exercise are Admiral’s Pointe, the Erie County Detoxification Facility, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, Family Health Services, Firelands Health, Lynx EMS, the Meadows at Osborn Park, Mill Manor, North Central EMS, the Ohio Veterans Home, Parkvue Community, Providence Care Center, the Commons at Providence, Stein Hospice, and the Sandusky police and fire departments.

The event is being sponsored by Firelands Health, the Erie County Emergency Management Agency, and the Erie County Health Department.
