One dead, one hospitalized following single vehicle crash in Sandusky

SANDUSKY – One man is dead and another is in hospital following a single vehicle crash on Water Street in Sandusky on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash took place when the vehicle, a 2015 ASVE Cobra replica car, entered West Water Street eastbound from West Shoreline Drive. The vehicle failed to maintain control and went left of center before crossing back into the eastbound lane. The vehicle then drove off the right side of the road and stuck a utility poke.

The driver, Cesare Avallone, 45, of Huron, sustained serious injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at Firelands Regional Medical Center. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

There was also one passenger in the vehicle, Ariel Palmer, 29, of Sandusky. She also sustained injuries and was transported to Firelands Regional Medical Center. She was later transported by Life Flight to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. She was wearing a lap belt at the time of the crash.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor of the crash at this time.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Sandusky Police Department, Sandusky Fire Department, and Wilson’s Towing.
