Governor DeWine signs bill that allows fireworks to be set off on certain dates

COLUMUBS – Governor Mike DeWine has signed a House Bill 172, which will allow for fireworks to be set off during certain days.

Previously, fireworks could be sold in Ohio; however, they had to be taken out of the state within 48 hours of purchase.

The dates that Ohioans can set off fireworks are below:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Chinese New Year
  • Cinco de Mayo
  • Memorial Day weekend
  • Juneteenth
  • July 3rd, 4th, and 5th
  • The first Friday, Saturday, and Sunday before and after July 4th
  • Labor Day weekend
  • Diwali
  • New Year’s Eve

The bill also includes a few more restrictions; including, only fireworks from licensed manufactures can be sold and set off, only individuals 18 years of age an older can set fire works off, and fireworks can only be set off on private property.

The law goes into effect on July 1, 2022.
