AG Yost reaches settlement with Frontier Communications

COLUMBUS – Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has reached a settlement agreement with Frontier Communications.

The settlement comes after an investigation into Frontier’s sales and advertising practices for internet services offered and sold to Ohio consumers found that the company was charging customers prices for certain levels of internet speeds that they knew could not be reached.

As part of the settlement, Frontier must fund upgrades to its internet infrastructure to provide or enhance existing services in Ohio. Frontier must also cease advertisements that were found to be deceptive. Along with this, Frontier has to give certain consumers the option to continue their regular service, discontinue service with no fee, or move to a different lower cost service package with a lower service speed, if available.

“Reliability is something all Ohioans need particularly when it comes to their internet,” Yost said. “It’s also just as important that they are getting what they pay for, and this agreement rectifies both and is a big win for Frontier’s customers.”

According to Yost, Frontier provides services to more than 84,000 residential customers in Ohio.

Frontier provides internet and landline service in Huron. They have done so since 2010, when they bought out Verizon’s landline and internet service in Ohio.

Huron Insider reached out to Frontier Communications for comment on the settlement. As of 8AM Sunday, they had not responded.
