Man charged in 2017 disappearance of Amanda Dean

COLLINS – The boyfriend of Amanda Dean has been charged with her murder.

Dean, a mother of four, was last seen on July 11, 2017, in Collins. She was 39 years old at the time of her disappearance.

Now, six years later, Frederick Reer, 40, of Collins, has been indicted on one count murder, one count of gross abuse of a corpse, and four counts of tampering with evidence. According to a press release from Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost’s office, agents with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested Reer on Friday following his indictment and transported him to the Huron County Jail, where he remains in custody. An arraignment hearing is scheduled Monday at 1PM in Huron County Common Pleas Court.

The indictment, handed down by a Huron County grand jury, follows the investigation being taken over by BCI after years at the Huron County Sheriff’s Office. The Huron County Common Pleas Court has appointed the Attorney General’s Office as special assistant to the Huron County prosecutor in the case.
