Local highway construction for the week of May 6

Here is a look at construction projects that are anticipated by the Ohio Department of Transportation to impact highways in Erie, Huron, Lorain, Ottawa, Sandusky, and Seneca counties during the week of May 6.

Erie County

State Route 13 bridge repairs – State Route 13, at the structure over the Ohio Turnpike – between Horn Road and Hoover Road – is closed for 180 days for a bridge repair project as part of the Ohio Turnpike Commission Project. The detour route will be U.S. 250/SR 13 north to SR 2 east to SR 13, and reverse. Estimated completion: Monday, October 7, 2024

State Route 60 median improvements – State Route 60 under SR 2, between Holiday Drive and Kneisel Road, will have single lane closures for a media improvement project. Crews will replace the existing, poor condition guardrail with concrete median barrier. The existing traffic island will also be replaced with pavement and channelizing lines. Estimated completion: June 2024

State Route 99 bridge repairs – State Route 99, between the Harris Road intersections under the Ohio Turnpike, is closed for 180 days for a bridge repair project as part of the Ohio Turnpike Commission Project. The detour will be SR 99 north to SR 113 west to SR 4 north to SR 99, and reverse. Estimated completion: Friday, October 18, 2024

Huron County

State Route 13 reconstruction – State Route 13, from the Richland County line to U.S. 250, will have single lane closures for a minor reconstruction project. Project work includes pavement replacement, culvert repairs, and bridge maintenance work.

NEW IMPACTS

  • SR 13, from U.S. 224 to SR 162, will close Monday, May 6 for 200 days so crews can complete pavement reconstruction work. Only local traffic will be maintained on SR 13. The detour route will be SR 13 north to U.S. 224 east to U.S. 250 west to SR 162 west to SR 13, and reverse. Estimated completion: Friday, November 22, 2024

Estimated completion: June 2025

State Route 61 intersection improvements – NEW IMPACTS – State Route 61 intersection at Mary Fate Park Drive, in the village of Plymouth, will have single lane closures for an intersection improvement project. Crews will be installing sidewalks and crosswalks at the intersection. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers when necessary. Estimated completion: July 2024

State Route 61 culvert replacement – State Route 61, between Egypt Road and W Townline Road, will have single lane closures for a culvert replacement. Traffic will be maintained at all times utilizing flaggers when necessary. Estimated completion: June 2024

State Route 99 Major Rehabilitation – State Route 99 reconstruction from SR 103 to U.S. 20.Work includes pavement edge reconstruction, pavement repairs, and asphalt resurfacing completed over three construction phases. 

CONTINUING IMPACTS

  • SR 99, from SR 103 to SR 162, is closed for pavement reconstruction work. This phase of the project is estimated to be completed in May 2024.
  • The detour route is SR 99 north to SR 103 east to SR 61 north to SR 162 west to SR 99, and reverse.
  • Access is only maintained for residents.

Completion of entire project: October 2024

State Route 99 culvert replacement – State Route 99, between Mead Road and Webb-Settlement Road, is closed for 30 days for a culvert replacement. There will be two posted detour routes:

  • Northbound Detour: SR 99 north to U.S. 20 west to SR 4 north to SR 99, and reverse.
  • Southbound Detour: SR 99 south to SR 113 west to SR 4 south to U.S. 20 east to SR 99, and reverse.

Estimated completion: May 9, 2024

State Route 162 culvert replacement – State Route 162, between Greenwich East Town Line Road and Euclid Road, is closed for 30 days for a culvert replacement. The detour route will be SR 162 west to SR 60 south to U.S. 224 west to U.S. 250 west to SR 162, and reverse. Estimated completion: Wednesday, May 29, 2024

U.S. Route 224 bridge repairs – U.S. 224, between Lane Road and Greenwich Milan Townline Road, will be reduced to one lane of traffic for a bridge repair project. Traffic will be maintained by a temporary traffic signal. Estimated completion: June 2024

U.S. Route 224 resurfacing – U.S. 224 from the Seneca County line to the Ashland County line, outside the city of Willard corporation limits, will have lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained at all times. Estimated completion: September 2024

U.S. Route 250 railroad repairs – U.S. 250 in the city of Norwalk, just south of Water Street, will close Monday, May 6 for Wheeling Lake Erie Railroad crossing repairs. The detour route will be U.S. 250 west to U.S. 20 east to SR 601 north to SR 113 west to U.S. 250, and reverse. Estimated completion: Wednesday, May 8, 2024

Lorain County

State Route 2 Minor Rehabilitation – State Route 2, from just west of the SR 58 interchange to the Murray Ridge Road bridge, will have single lane closures for a minor rehabilitation project. Crews will be completing work at night from approximately 6:00PM to 8:00AM. Project work includes pavement repairs, asphalt paving, guardrail repairs, and bridge maintenance. Traffic will be maintained at all times. Estimated completion: September 2024

State Route 162 resurfacing – NEW IMPACTS – State Route 162, from Butler Road to Firestone Road, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers when necessary. Estimated completion: August 2024

Ottawa County

State Route 2, between Erie County and SR 53, Port Clinton, is reduced to one lane north of the Edison Bay Bridge for bridge construction through May. Due to the nature of the work, closures will remain in effect on April 8 (Eclipse date).

  • Lane restrictions will occur for paving beginning as early as April.
  • After May 15, paving east of SR 269 will occur at night; paving west of SR 269 will utilize daytime lane restrictions.
  • Numerous ramp closures are necessary at SR 169 and SR 269, which will occur Sunday night-Friday morning (ramp closures not to impede weekend traffic).

State Route 53, between SR 2 and SR 163, Port Clinton, is closed south of State Road through Thursday, May 23. Additional lane restrictions will be necessary for finish work following the opening of the new SR 2 interchange roundabout.

State Route 163, between the north and south legs of Brander Rd., under the Ohio Turnpike, will be closed for Turnpike construction work through June. The closure will resume on Monday, April 15 and be in place through June. Lane restrictions may remain in place through summer following the closure. Contact the Ohio Turnpike for more information.

Sandusky County

U.S. Route 6, near Terra State, will experience lane restrictions for microsurface treatment beginning the week of May 6.

Eastbound U.S. Route 20 at the Sandusky River may experience lane restrictions for a basin repair the week of May 6.

U.S. Route 20 in Woodville may experience lane and shoulder restrictions during a project to upgrade the school flashers at Solomon Lutheran School.

State Route 53 near/around the Fremont Bypass may experience lane restrictions for bridge sweeping.

State Route 101, between northeast of Tiffin and the southern Clyde corp line, will experience lane restrictions for microsurface treatment beginning the week of May 6. Work on SR 101 overlaps into Seneca County.

Seneca County

State Route 18 from the city of Fostoria to U.S. 224, near the city of Tiffin, excluding the village of Bascom, will be restricted through the work zone for resurfacing and bridge repair project. Work will continue through September.

  • Work will begin near Fostoria and continue to the east.
  • Bridge work over Middle Branch East Brach Wolf Creek, west of Walmart, will begin April 22. Traffic will be maintained at the bridge via a temporary traffic signal.

State Route 18, between Bascom and North TR 109, will experience lane restrictions for drainage work beginning the week of May 6.

State Route 19, between CR 38 and North TR 169, will experience lane restrictions for paving the week of May 6, weather permitting.

State Route 101, between northeast of Tiffin and the southern Clyde corp line, will experience lane restrictions for microsurface treatment beginning the week of May 6. Work on SR 101 overlaps into Sandusky County.
