Huron High School floods

HURON – Among the buildings flooded during Wednesday night’s storm was Huron High School, and, as a result, the school will be closed for a second day on Friday.

According to a letter to parents and guardians Huron City Schools Superintendent Dr. James Tatman said a classroom, the restrooms, band room, athletic office, main office, student services office, teacher work/break rooms, cafeteria, and choir room all had standing water.

Dr. Tatman said crews from Huron City Schools and Certified Restorations cleaned up the water and all areas are now clear of standing water, but it will not be until the weekend that the spaces can completely dry and be safely used for school operations.

Woodlands Elementary and McCormick Middle School had minimal water impact and will resume classes Friday.

The Huron football home opener against Brookside is also scheduled to continue.
