One hospitalized following crash with semi at Highway 20, Route 4 intersection

BELLEVUE – A woman was hospitalized Monday afternoon after the car she was driving was struck by a semi at the U.S. Highway 20 and State Route 4 in Lyme Township, Huron County.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when a 2010 Buick sedan was driving southbound on Route 4, and a 2021 Vovlo Semi was driving westbound on Highway 20. The patrol says that as the sedan entered the intersection, it was struck by the semi. Both vehicles came to rest in the roadway.

The driver of the sedan, Jeannette Waibel, 58, of Willard, was trapped within the sedan and eventually freed by mechanical means. She was flown by Mercy Health LifeFlight to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.

The driver of the semi, Oleg Gubenya, 61, of Pleasant Hope, Missouri, reported no injuries as a result of the crash.

The Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash. Alcohol or drug use are currently unknown factors in the crash.
