Maui Sands owner reportedly hires scrappers

SANDUSKY – The owner of the abandoned Maui Sands hotel and waterpark has hired individuals to scrap items from inside the vacant structure.

A report from the Perkins Township Police Department states an officer spoke to a hired scrapper on Friday evening after observing a truck and dump trailer pulled up to the door of the building where multiple people have been arrested for illegally scrapping and trespassing since its 2019 closure. The scrapper told the officer that he was hired by the owner, Rick Davis.

The report states Davis confirmed the scrapper’s information and said he would contact police when he sends someone to do work at the building in the future.

Three days before this incident, the Perkins Township Board of Trustees approved an ordinance that would begin the process to demolish the condemned structure.
