10AM Winter Storm Elliott update

ERIE COUNTY – Below is information for Winter Storm Elliott as of 10AM Friday.

WEATHER: A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect until 1PM Saturday, and a Wind Chill Advisory is now in effect until 12PM Sunday. Those advisories replace the Winter Storm Warning and Wind Chill Warning, which expired at 10AM.

Additional light snow accumulations are possible through the remainder this morning and gusty winds will continue to cause blowing and drifting snow. Visibilities may occasionally drop to a half mile to a mile at times. Wind chills as low as 10 to 20 below zero.

TRAFFIC: Erie, Huron and Sandusky counties have all been downgraded to a Level 2 Winter Road Warning. Roadways are now open to all non-emergency travel, but they are still hazardous due to blowing and drifting snow and/or ice cover.

Most major roads continue to have moderate to heavy traffic.

Eastbound lanes of the Ohio Turnpike remain closed at mile post 106.0 following yesterday’s 50-vehicle crash that killed four. Eastbound traffic is being diverted off at Exit-91 (SR 53/Sandusky). After reopening late Friday night, Westbound traffic is again being diverted off at Exit-118 (US 250/Sandusky).

POWER OUTAGES: Since the 10PM update, power has been restored to thousands of FirstEnergy customers. A couple hundred, however, still remain without power.

Approximately 385 customers in Erie County remain without power. A majority of those outages are in Oxford Township, where approximately 182 customers remain without power. Other smaller outages remain in Huron and Sandusky.
