Huron City Council purchases vacant, half-acre lot

HURON – Huron City Council voted to purchase a vacant half-acre lot for $5,000 at their August 9 meeting.

The lot is located at 306 Linden Drive and according to City Manager Matt Lasko, currently undevelopable. He said that the City is purchasing it for possible future development in the Rye Beach area.

In July, Council voted to purchase several acres of land on Berlin Road for $174,500. The City has said that the property will be turned into a park; however, like the Linden Drive lot, has not released any plan on how they plan to develop it.

Also at the meeting:

Lasko announced that a $24.45 million grant has been awarded to the U.S. 6 connectivity project from the U.S. Department of Transportation. He said that the project calls from three round-a-bouts on Rye Beach Road, a round-a-bout at Camp Street and U.S. 6, intersection improvements to Perkins Avenue and U.S. 6, a new four mile multimodal path from the city of Huron to the city of Sandusky, an expansion of the sidewalk on Rye Beach Road, and likely a turn-lane in front of Sawmill Creek Resort.

Council voted to create the Opioid Settlement Special Revenue Fund. The fund was created so the City could receive one of eighteen annual grant awards totaling $2,616.39. The money comes from the National Opioid Settlement Agreement and is required to be used to fund law enforcement and first responders.
