August 6 is Richard Klein Day

HURON – August 6 is Richard Klein Day in Huron, Mayor Monty Tapp proclaimed at the July 26 Huron City Council meeting.

Klein, a Huron High School native, was a paratrooper who jumped into France on D-Day and later into Holland. He was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge and was sent home in December of 1944.

After the war, Klein would receive his degree from the Ohio State University and became a teacher at Huron High School. While with Huron City Schools, he would also become the assistant principal at Huron High School and then the principal at McCormick Junior High. He would also serve as athletic director and the head baseball and basketball coach.

Klein passed away on June 8, 2021 at the age of 98. His full obituary can be found here.
