Frontier Communications expanding fiber internet to Huron

HURON – Huron residents will soon have a choice to receive a new faster internet connection.

A spokesperson with Frontier Communications has confirmed to Huron Insider that the company has started construction on a new, all fiber-optic network in Huron. The new network will be extended to almost 5,000 homes and will offer speeds of up to 2 gigabits per second.

A 2 gigabit speed is more than three times faster than the faster speed Buckeye Broadband currently offers in Huron, which is 600 megabits in their Supreme Internet offer. Frontier says they will “pricing once we’re able to begin marketing the new service. But it will be a competitive alternative to any broadband options currently available.” Currently Buckeye’s Supreme Internet is offered at $99.99 for the first three months and $109.99 after.

Frontier expects that the construction will be completed in Huron by the end of 2022; however, that will depend on how quickly they can receive permits to build in the public right-of-way.

The Connecticut-based company has provided internet and landline service to Huron since 2010, when they bought out Verizon’s landline and internet service in Ohio.

The new fiber-optic network is expected to be expanded throughout Ohio and several other states by 2025. Frontier says they will not announce those markets in advanced for competitive purposes.
