Norwalk High School holds mock crash

NORWALK – Several local law enforcement agencies partnered with students from Norwalk High School to put on a mock crash Wednesday.

Students Lexy Ward and Alaina Balduff organized the event, which was held ahead of the school’s prom.

During the mock crash, students used makeup and fake blood to make it seem like they were in a crash, and two crashed cars, which were loaned from White’s Towing, were used. Firemen used hydraulic jaws to cut the door off to free a “trapped” passenger. North Central EMS personnel treated several “injured” passengers and loaded them in the ambulance.

In the scenario, one student was “killed” in the crash, and another student who caused the “crash” was arrested for OVI and taken away in handcuffs.

Approximately 200 students watched the mock crash in the school’s parking lot.

From 2017-2022, there were 964 teen-related crashes in Huron County. Four people died in those crashes.
