Tigers boys win, girls finish runner-up at Artie Miller Invite

HURON – At their home invite on Saturday, the Huron Tigers boys track finished first for the first time since 2011, while the girls finished second.

The boys’ first place finishes started with their first race. The 4×800 relay team, which consists of Luke Steuk, Pearson Keller, Jacob Eck, and Elijah Routh, finished 22 seconds ahead of their nearest competitor with a time of 8:28.88. Jacob Eck finished first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 52.44. The 4×400 relay team, which consists of Jacob Eck, Jackson Campbell, Luke Steuk, and Conner Schaefffer, finished off the meet by finishing first with a time of 8:28.88. Brad Holbrook and Sean Kaminski also finished in first and second places respectively in high jump. The boys 4×200 team, which consists of Beau Harkelroad, Andrew Delaney, Cooper Norwell, and Conner Schaeffer, broke the invite and stadium records for the relay with their time of 1:30.13; however, the Benedictine Bangles finished ahead of them by 0.05 seconds.

On the girls’ side, two records were broken. Jaden Carey broke the invite and stadium records for long jump, with a score of 17’5.75″. Carey also finished first in the 100 meter hurdles and was named MVP of the invite. Kennedy Schlessman broke the invite and stadium records for the 800 meter run with her time of 2:19.95. The 4×200 relay team, which consists of Eliana Cozzie, Kyla Garbe, Kaylee Parker, and Isabella Cozzie, finished first with a time of 1:49.79. The 4×100 relay team, which consists of Eliana Cozzie, Kyla Garbe, Jaden Carey, and Isabella Cozzie, finished first with a time of 50.96. Finally, the 4×400 relay team, which consists of Maggie Golling, Kaylee Parker, Kennedy Schlessman, and Isabella Cozzie, finished first with a time of 4:27.14.

The Tigers will next compete in their final dual meet of the season on Tuesday in Oak Harbor and will compete in the Margaretta Invite on Friday.
