Man charged with felonies after allegedly assaulting woman in her apartment, resisting and threatening police

SANDUSKY – Kendal Burks, 35, of Sandusky, was charged with four felonies Thursday evening after he allegedly assaulted a woman in her apartment, resisted arrest, and threatened multiple police officers.

According to a report from the Sandusky Police Department, police were called to a Shoreway Drive apartment for a report of Burks not leaving. When police arrived, according to the report, they found Burks on the top of the stairs. According to the report, an officer pointed his taser at Burks and ordered him to get on the ground; however, he refused.

Police were eventually able to handcuff Burks and walk him down the stairs to the cruiser, the report states. When police placed Burks in the cruiser, according to the report, he told an officer, “I’ll beat your ass bitch.” When police attempted to close the cruiser door, according to the report, Burks kicked an officer in the chest.

Police were eventually able to get Burks in the cruiser and transport him to the Erie County Jail. On the way to the jail, according to the report, Burks made several threats to the police officers, including saying that he would knock an officer’s teeth down his throat while he was shopping.

According to the report, a woman told police that Burks attacked her in front of her child. She claimed that she was sleeping when Burks entered the apartment, the report states. The woman told police, according to the report, that Burks attacked her pulling her hair and struck her in the face. According to the report, the woman added that Burks and her were previously in a relationship, but did not have any children together.

Burks is charged with assault (M1), resisting arrest (M2), retaliation (F3), retaliation (F3), assault of police officer (F4), persistent disorderly conduct (M4). He is currently being held in the Erie County Jail on $77,750 bond.
