Huron Board of Education approves compensation agreement with Buckeye Sports Center

HURON – The Huron Board of Education voted Tuesday to approve a school compensation agreement that would require Buckeye Sports Center to continue to keep the district whole with regular real estate taxes even if a TIF is approved for them.

Buckeye Sports Center is primary a boat dealership that has one location near Akron. According to Huron City Manager Matt Lasko, who spoke at the meeting, they plan on investing $7 million to build a second location on Lake Erie Parkway in Huron.

According to Lasko, Buckeye Sports Center has negotiated a 75% TIF or tax increment financing agreement with the City. However, with the school compensation agreement, Huron City Schools and EHOVE will be kept whole with real estate taxes.

Lasko added that Buckeye Sports Center plans to begin with 14 employees and a $700,000 payroll.

This agreement is similar to one approved by the previous board in December with Ardagh Metal Beverage.
