New York man allegedly lead police on chase Monday, trespassed on impound lot Tuesday

HURON and SANDUSKY – A man was arrested twice this week in Erie County after allegedly leading Huron police on a car chase on Monday and trespassing on the impound lot where his car was Tuesday.

According to a report from the Huron Police Department, police observed Tomas Armesto, 31, of New York, NY, driving 83 MPH on State Route 2 near Bogart Road, where the speed limit is 70 MPH. The report states that police then turned their lights and sirens on; however, Armesto refused to pull over and a pursuit began. During the pursuit, according to the report, Armesto called 911 and said he did not want to stop the vehicle because it was law enforcement pursuing him.

Soon after the pursuit passed the US61 exit, according to the report, Armesto’s pulled off on the right side of the roadway. The report states that, once the vehicles stopped, police pointed their guns at Armesto and ordered him to put his hands up, which he did. However, according to the report, when police asked him to roll down his window and step out of the vehicle, he did not comply. According to a report, an officer eventually went over and put his arm through the partially open driver’s side window, in an attempt to reach the door handle. When he did this, according to the report, Armesto started to roll up the window; however, the officer was able to gain control of Armesto and eventually arrested him.

In this incident, Armesto was cited for speed (MM) and charged with resisting Arrest (M2) and failing to comply with the lawful order of police (M1).

One day later, according to a report from the Perkins Township Police Department, were dispatched to Foster Chevrolet for a report of a man that was attempting to take a car from the lot which was not his. When police arrived, according to the report, they found Armesto behind the impound lot gates unable to get out. According to the report, two Foster employees said they found him in the lot trying to get his vehicle out. One of the employees added, according to the report, that when she began questioning Armesto, he said that she kills babies and that she should go back to New York.

According to the report, police then took Armesto into custody. He claimed, according to a report, that a taxi dropped him off and the next thing that he could remember was waking up in his car. He believed that he blacked out, the report states.

An ambulance was called to check on Armesto; however, he refused to go to the hospital. Later, according to the report, he told police that he wanted to go to the hospital. According to the report, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, he was treated and discharged. He was then taken to the Erie County Jail. While at the jail, according to the report, he claimed he still had chest pains and wanted to go back to the hospital. When he was cleared from the hospital and officers began to him back into custody, he resisted, the report states.

In this incident, Armesto was charged with criminal trespass (M4).
