Huron City Council unanimously votes to rezone ConAgra property

HURON – At Tuesday’s Huron City Council meeting, council voted unanimously 6-0, as Council Member Sam Artino was absent, to approve an ordinance to rezone the ConAgra property.

The ordinance will rezone the property from from I-2 (General Industrial) to MU-GD (Multi-Use Granary District).

There was no discussion from council prior to the vote. City Manager Matt Lasko pointed out prior to the vote that there had been no opposition to the rezoning during public hearings before council or the planning commission.

The City of Huron has owned the property since 2007. The former ConAgra plant building, which closed in 2006, was demolished in 2012.

In late 2021, the City of Huron announced plans to have Toledo-based NAI Harmon Group develop the property. NAI Harmon plans to develop the property into 50 townhouses and 30 apartments or condos. The property is also planned to have boat docks, a half mile walking trail, green space, and an overlook boardwalk.
