Jeanne Ryan

Jeanne Lorraine Ryan passed away on January 23, 2022. She was born to Warren Baatz and Genevieve (Casewell) Mabbitt on October 13, 1933 in Wellington, Ohio. She grew up in Birmingham, Ohio, graduated from Sandusky High School and Providence School of Nursing. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend to many. The heart of her family, she went to be with the Lord and the love of her life, Jim, whom she married July 5, 1952. She loved doing anything that included her family.

God gave Jeanne the gift of nurturing, not only her family, but as a night charge nurse in the newborn nursery at Providence Hospital for 17 years. She attended Holy Angels Church, working there for 10 years. She owned J-J’s Cake, Candy & Crafts Cottage for 18 years. She was a Master Gardener. She and Jim enjoyed ball room and square dancing. She also loved all forms of crafts and needlework, playing piano, card games, painting, sculpting and making dried flowers. Jeanne ran The Big Oak Bed & Breakfast from her home and J-J’s Garden & Gifts with Jim.

She is survived by four sons, James (Ruthie) – Texas, Daniel – Sandusky, David (Mindy) – Florida and Dale (Carolyn) – Clyde; three daughters, Constance (Tom) Zouhary – Toledo, Catherine (David) Frankart – Castalia, and Cynthia (Michael) Pauley – Florida; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.

She is survived by brothers, Dick Shafer – California, Robert (Barb) Shafer – S. Carolina, and Carl Baatz – Huron; sisters, Linda Thomas – Huron and Marlene (Doug) Gruber – Huron. She was preceded in death by Jim, her beloved husband of 65 years, her parents, her beloved grandmother, Amelia Wolfe, siblings, Kenneth Baatz, Charlaine Hardy, Karen Baatz and Alene Edwards and granddaughter, Mary Jeanne Fultz.

Friends may call on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Ave., Sandusky. Father Monte Hoyles will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
