Ernestina Kovasckitz
Ernestina (Avila) Kovasckitz, 80 Sandusky, peacefully passed away on December 31, 2021.
Ernestina “Tina” was born on March 5, 1941 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico to the late Jose H. and Teresa (Esain) Avila.
Ernestina immigrated to the U.S. with her father, Jose when she was 8 years old to join her mother and siblings. Ernestina was later naturalized to become a U.S. citizen in 1983.
Ernestina worked at Stephens Printing in Sandusky and retired from housekeeping after 30 years. She was an active member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the bereavement team, and cleaned the church with “the church ladies” in her spare time. Ernestina also enjoyed volunteering at Ability Works with her son, Ted. Ernestina was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and her greatest love was spending time with her family, especially her two grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother as family was most important in her life next to her deep faith in God.
Ernestina is survived by her husband of 53 years, Larry M. Kovasckitz, whom she married on June 1, 1968. Ernestina is also survived by her two children, Theodore “Ted” Kovasckitz and Judina (Mike) Marsh; two grandchildren, Michael E. Marsh Jr, and Maria T. Marsh; sister, Sophia (Ron) Spataro, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her father, Jose H. Avila; mother, Teresa (Esain) Avila; brother, Jesus Avila, and two sisters, Antonia Fischer and Mary A. Veliz.
Private family services will be held on Tuesday January 4, 2022 at Groff Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave, Sandusky. Burial will follow at Castalia Cemetery. The family is requesting masks be worn and to practice social distancing at all times. A celebration of life will be held and conducted at a later date.
