Seven killed in crashes over Christmas holiday in Ohio; decrease in fatalities compared to previous years

COLUMBUS – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reporting that seven people were killed in seven crashes on Ohio’s roadways this Christmas holiday.

Of the seven killed, three were not wearing a seat belt.

This is a decrease from previous years. In 2020, nine people were killed in crashes on Ohio roadways. In 2019, 12 people were killed on December 24 or December 25.

This year, troopers removed 162 impaired drivers from roads. This is an increase of nearly 12% compared to 2020.

The the Christmas reporting period began on Thursday, December 23 at 12:00AM and went through through 11:59PM on Sunday, December 26.
