What police say you should do if you accidently call 911

SANDUSKY – With new phones including emergency 911 features, the chances of you accidently calling 911 are higher.

A post from the Perkins Township Police Department says that, if you accidently call 911, you should stay on the line and answer a couple of questions from dispatchers. The department says that staying on the line makes the process quicker and frees up dispatchers. This is because, if you hang up, dispatchers will have to call you back.

On iPhones 8 or later, the emergency call feature can be activated by pressing and holding the power button and one of the volume buttons. After doing this, the Emergency SOS slider will appear. Once this appears, you can either slide the slider to call emergency services immediately or continue to hold down the buttons. Continuing to hold down the buttons will start a countdown till a call to emergency services begins and a panic alarm will sound.
