Physical road rage reported in the area of SR2 and SR60

VERMILION – The Erie County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of SR2 and SR60 in Vermilion Township for a report of two individuals fighting on the side of the road.

When the deputy arrived, he spoke to a man sitting in his car on the side of the road. The man claimed when he was merging onto State Route 2 from State Route 60 when a vehicle behind him began to honk. He said that he responded by giving the vehicle behind him the middle finger. He claimed that that vehicle then sped around him, placed it’s hazards on, and the driver put his arm out of the window signaling to pull over. The man said that, when he pulled over behind the vehicle, the driver of that vehicle told him to fight him. The man said that, when he refused, the driver began to punch and assault him. He said that eventually his attacker when back into his vehicle and left the area. The deputy noticed dried blood in the man’s ear.

After the deputy spoke to the man on the side of the road, dispatch advised the other man who was involved traveled to the Florence Township Fire Department to report the incident. That man said that he was merging onto State Route 2 from State Route 60 when an object from the first man’s vehicle stuck his hood and window. The man said that he then motioned for him to pull over on the side of the road. The man said that he then exited the vehicle and approached the other man’s vehicle to exchange insurance information. The man claimed that, when he went over to the vehicle, the driver said “I don’t f*****g have time for this s**t. I’m on my way to a doctors appointment”, spit in his face, and claimed that the was COVID-19 positive. The man did said that he responded by slapping him and then left the scene.

The case was forwarded to the Vermilion Municipal Court prosecutor. No charges have been filed as of the posting of this article.
