Gavarone announces intent to run for Kaptur’s seat

BOWLING GREEN and HURON – Current state senator Theresa Gavarone (R) announced her intent to run for Ohio’s 9th congressional district.

The 9th congressional district seat is currently held by Marcy Kaptur (D).

According to her website, Gavarone is an attorney and co-owner of a Bowling Gren restaurant, Mr. Spots. Besides serving as a state senator for Ohio’s 2nd senatorial district, she previously served in the state house for Ohio’s 3rd district from 2016-2019 and a Bowling Green City Council member.

Gavarone, 55, joins J.R. Majewski, of Port Clinton, and Madison Gesiotto Gilbert, a Canton lawyer and 2014 Miss Ohio, in Republicans running for the seat.

Gavarone has lived in Bowling Green for many years; however, she announced that she will be moving her residence to Huron. With the new congressional maps, the new 9th congressional district serves Huron, but not Bowling Green.

The date for the 2022 primary election is May 3.
