Two hospitalized following snow-related crash involving semi

PORT CLINTON – Two individuals were hospitalized Saturday night following a crash on State Route 2, near mile marker 25 in Portage Township.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by Sara Jefferson, of Livingston, TN, lost control on the snow covered roadway and was struck on the left front driver’s side door by a 2012 Volvo Semi, driven by Aleem Abdullah, of Coloma, MI.

Jefferson sustained serious injuries from the crash and had to be extricated from the vehicle by mechanical means. She was transported by Port Clinton EMS to Firelands Medical Center. James Dartt, of Fremont, was a passenger in Jefferson’s vehicle also sustained serious injuries. He was also transported by Port Clinton EMS to Firelands Medical Center.

Abdullah and his passenger Malik Abdullah of Benton Harbor, MI, did not sustain any injuries in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation. 

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Port Clinton Fire & EMS, Interstate Towing, Ken’s Towing, and ODOT.
