Second person dies following Huron County crash

GREENWICH – A second person has died as a result of a crash that took place Monday on Old State Road at Boughtonville Road in Ripley Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash took place when Drake Reed, 25, of Sandusky, was driving a white 2008 Jeep Patriot northbound on Old State Road when it allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Old State Road and Boughtonville Road and struck a Chrysler Town and Country driven by Marcia Barnett, 31, of Greenwich.

Reed was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He received serious injuries and was transported by Mercy Life Flight to Ohio Health Mansfield. One of Reed’s passengers, Timbra Conley, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced deceased on scene by the Huron County Coroner. A two-year-old child, Reed’s other passenger received possible injuries and was transported by Willard EMS to Mercy Hospital Willard.

Barnett was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was extricated from the vehicle by mechanical means. She was transported by North Central EMS to Fisher Medical Center. She died from her injuries on Monday afternoon. Barnett’s passenger, Jackie Biddle received possible injuries, but was not transported from the scene by EMS.

The crash remains under investigation. Failure to yield and unsafe speed are suspected factors in the crash.
