Huron Township Trustee Ed Enderle accused of stealing political signs

HURON – Huron Township Trustee Ed Enderle was charged Sunday with Receiving Stolen Property, after an Erie County sheriff’s deputy found that Enderle had taken multiple political signs that were not his.

According to an incident report from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was dispatched Sunday afternoon for a report of Enderle taking several political signs from the intersection of Perkins Avenue and Galloway Road. The complainant said that earlier that morning, she noticed that two signs for Huron Township Board of Trustees candidate Edward Wimmer were missing from the Perkins Avenue and Galloway Road intersection. She said that, later that morning, Enderle’s vehicle was observed in the area multiple times and, at approximately 2:45PM, on the shoulder of the intersection.

The deputy then went to speak to Enderle. Enderle claimed that he only removed the signs because that they were in an area where he believed that they were illegally placed. He said that he did not want to waste tax payer money to have a government employee remove the signs. Enderle then told police that the signs he had taken were in the back of his vehicle.

In the vehicle, the deputy found six signs for Edward Wimmer, two for the Perkins Police Levy, and one sign for Perkins Board of Education Candidate Lee Willis.

City of Huron Michael Kaufman decided to charge Enderle with Receiving Stolen Property (M1).

In the report, the deputy also noted that one of Enderle’s signs within close proximity to the other signs and his was not removed.

Enderle has served on the Huron Township Board of Trustees for 24 years. He is currently running for one of two spots on the board, along with Mary K. Schlessman and Edward Wimmer.
