Remains of Max Soviak to return to Ohio Wednesday; public procession to follow

BERLIN HEIGHTS – The remains of Max Soviak are scheduled to return to Erie County this week. Soviak, a Berlin Heights native and a 2017 graduate of Edison High School, is among the 13 military personnel killed in the suicide bombing at the Kabul airport in Afghanistan on August 27.

Soviak’s remains are scheduled to arrive at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport on Wednesday around 10:25AM.

A private procession will then begin at the airport to U.S. Route 250 at Exit 118, at which point the public procession will begin.

Below is how individuals are asked to stage the area for the public procession:

  • Veteran Service Organizations with motorcycle escort units are asked to stage at the commercial vehicle transfer lot located near the Ohio Turnpike Toll Booths at Exit 118 and US Route 250 no later than 11:30AM.
  • All public service vehicles are asked to stage at the CertainTeed Corporation at 11519 US Route 250 no later than 11:30AM.
  • Members of the community are encouraged to stage along the processional route no later than 11:30AM.

“All motorists traveling in the general area of the public procession between the approximate times of 11:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. should be aware of the possibility of intermittent total road closures by law enforcement officers along and adjacent to the public procession route,” Erie County Sherriff Paul Sigsworth said in a press release.

All individuals of the community are invited to pay their respects to Soviak along the public procession route.
