Police Blotter for the week of June 20

HURON – Below is a summary of Huron Police reports from between June 20 to June 26.

On June 20 at 2:20PM, police arrived at the Huron Boat Basin for a parked car that was hit. The complainant said that, when she backing from her parking space, she turned too sharply and struck a parked vehicle which was parked on the passenger side of her vehicle. Both vehicles had scratches from the incident. The owner of the car that was struck’s son was advised of the incident.

On June 20 at 11:44PM, police arrived at the Berlin Road Hy-Miler/Mobil for alarms. The building was found to be secure.

On June 21 at 12:14AM, a woman arrived at the police station to request a welfare check on her daughter. The woman said that she hasn’t heard from her in a few days. Police went to the daughter’s house. She said that her phone was broken and would be fixed on the following day.

On June 21 at 10:28AM, police arrived at the US6 walkover bridge for a traffic crash. Police found that the vehicle attempted a left turn, but instead ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a stop sign.

On June 21 at 10:54AM, police arrived at a Linden Drive house for an assault. Police spoke to a man who said that he got into an argument with another man, and that man struck him. He said that he didn’t want to file charges and didn’t appear to be injured. Police then went to speak with the other man. While they were doing so, the other man was yelling racist and homophobic slurs. That man told police that the first man was running around in the road with a piece of wood in his hands. He denied that anything physical had happened.

On June 21 at 12:35PM, police arrived at the Comfort Inn for a forgotten purse in the parking lot. Police found a Cedar Point bag in the parking lot. They were able to speak with the owner, who said that her nephew would pick the bag up. He later picked the bag up from the police station.

On June 21 at 1:00PM, a man arrived at the police station for a golf cart inspection. After a $25 fee was paid, police inspected the vehicle. After meeting all of the requirements, the owner was issued a copy of the form and an inspection sticker was placed on the vehicle.

On June 22 at 9:28AM, police arrived at a Cleveland Road apartment for a verbal dispute between a man and a woman. While police were in-route, the complainant, the man’s mother, said that the two had left the area. When police arrived, the man’s mother said that her son was yelling at the woman about things on her cell phone while they were in their vehicle. She said that she then told them to get out of the car. Police told the woman to call back if the two return. The woman later called back to say that the two had returned. Police spoke to them, and they said that nothing physical had happened.

On June 23 at 4:30PM, police observed an open door at a Main Street office building. They checked the inside and did not find anything to be out of the ordinary.

On June 23 at 1:48PM, three woman arrived at the police station for a welfare check on a man. One of the women lives with the man, while the other two are related to him. The woman who lives with him said that he was acting paranoid earlier that day. She said that he said that there were listening devices in their car and that people were following him in his car. She said that once they got back to their apartment, he started taking apart the car, throwing electronics away, and making comments about suicide and being set up. She said that soon after he left the apartment. Police told the woman to call them if he returns.

On June 23 at 11:25PM, an Erie County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived at the police station with a woman who was in custody for OVI. A data master test was run on the woman. It was found that she had .146 BAC. She was then released from the station.

On June 24 at 3:15PM, a man arrived at the police station to report a theft from Goodwill. He said a regular customer had taken jewelry from the store. The man provided a description of the customer, the license plate number of her car, and security camera footage of the incident. The man said that he didn’t not want the woman charged; however, he did want her trespassed from Goodwill stores in Erie, Huron, Ottawa, and Sandusky counties. Police were unable to contact the woman.

On June 24 at 6:54PM, police arrived at the Rye Beach Hy-Miler/Shell for a crash. Both drivers said that vehicle #1 was pulling out of the parking lot on to Cleveland Road West; however, due to oncoming traffic, he backed into vehicle #2. Vehicle #1 had a large dent in the bumper and a broken taillight. Vehicle #2 had a broken driver’s side mirror.

On June 25 at 8:00PM, police arrived at the Mansfield Correctional Institute to pick up a man who had a warrant issued through Huron Municipal Court. The man was later transported to the Erie County Jail.

On June 25 at 9:00AM, a man arrived at the police station to report a child custody dispute. He said his child’s mother wasn’t letting him pick his child up from her house. Police referred the man to the courts.

On June 25 at 10:36AM, police arrived at a Riverside Drive house to assist the squad with an individual who was undergoing chemotherapy and was intoxicated.

On June 25 at 1:26PM, police arrived at a Cleveland Road house for a 911 hang-up. 911 dispatch reported that they could hear a woman asking someone to “please breathe.” The phone pinged near Jackson Street Pier in Sandusky; however, the caller lives at the Cleveland Road house. Police spoke to the caller at the house. She said that she believes one of her kids may have made the call. Her call log did not show any history of calling 911.

On June 26 at 8:10AM, police arrived at the westbound off ramp at Rye Beach Road for a traffic crash. The driver of the first vehicle said that she the vehicle in-front of her stop, and that caused her to crash into that vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle said that she was stopes to wait for traffic to pass, and that the other woman crashed into her. The first driver’s vehicle had no noticeable damage, while the second driver’s vehicle had minor scratches. The first driver was issued a warning for Assured Clear Distance Ahead.

On June 26 at 10:15AM, a woman arrived at the police station for a golf cart inspection. After a $25 fee was paid, police inspected the vehicle. After meeting all of the requirements, the owner was issued a copy of the form and an inspection sticker was placed on the vehicle.

On June 26 at 10:37AM, police arrived at a Cleveland Road house for a hit-skip accident. A woman said that her mailbox was hit by a vehicle. She said that she believed it happened around 8:30AM that morning.

On June 26 at 11:36AM, police arrived at Cornell’s Foods for found property. An employee said that a customer had turned in a wallet. Police were able to contact the wallet’s owner, who later picked it up.

On June 26 at 4:25PM, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office reported that they had a man who had a warrant issued through Huron Municipal Court. The man was later transported to the Erie County Jail.

On June 26 at 9:16PM, police observed a vehicle driving 47MPH in a 35MPH area. Police pulled the vehicle over and found that the driver had a License Forfeiture suspension through Huron Municipal Court. The driver was cited. He then called a licensed driver to pick up him and his vehicle.

On June 26 at 9:38PM, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the police station to run a test on a man who was in custody for OVI. The man refused to take the test.
