Harry Sonick

Harry (Bud) J. Sonick Jr., 75, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning of Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at  Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

Harry was born May 15, 1946, and was the adopted son of Harry (Bud) Sonick Sr. and Evelyn (Werner) Sonick.

Bud was a life-long resident of Sandusky, and a proud member and graduate of Sandusky High School “class of ’64.”. He also attended Urbana University and served in the Army Reserves.  Bud spent 30 years as a car salesman before becoming a loan officer and a job coach for disabled persons. Earlier this year, Bud finally retired as an aide at the dialysis center.

Bud was a people person. He enjoyed meeting new people, making new friends, and always was willing to lend a helping hand and to be of service to those who needed a friendly face. Bud didn’t like being idle, rather he liked hosting family gatherings and adding more and more chairs to the table as the family grew. He was a great storyteller, with a ready laugh. Spending time with his friends gave him a chance to “hold court” by telling jokes and sharing stories. Bud enjoyed playing golf and was a fan of the Indians, the Browns and Canadian Curling. His ferry companions, Wilma and Gracie, waited for him with wagging tails to walk with him in Heaven.

Bud is survived by his daughter, Emily Knauer; son, Phillip Walters; granddaughters Lillian (Eli Gaydish) Sonick and Corrin, Paige, and Raquel Walters; grandsons, Joseph and Zander Knauer; great-grandchildren, Piper Stormie and Elijah Gaydish; and newly found sister, Deborah (Jeff) Wells.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and natural mother Evelyn Ball. The family invites you to attend a memorial service Saturday, July 24 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church, 429 Central Ave, Sandusky, Ohio. A fellowship and luncheon will follow.  Bud loved his Hawaiian shirts, so if you have one, please wear it and bring a good story.

Foster Funeral Home & Crematory, Huron, Ohio will be handling arrangements.
