Gov. DeWine signs bill banning public schools and universities from requiring vaccines without full FDA approval

COLUMBUS – Governor Mike DeWine signed House Bill 244 Wednesday, which will ban Ohio public schools and universities from requiring vaccines that have not been granted full approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Right now, all three COVID-19 vaccines have not received full approval from the FDA. However, Pfizer and Moderna have both filed for full FDA approval for their vaccines. White House chief medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci told CNBC Tuesday, “The data are about as good as it gets. … I would be astounded if these vaccines, namely the mRNA and the J&J, didn’t get full approval.”

It will take 90 days until the law goes into effect. In those 90 days, the FDA may issue full approval to at least one of the COVID-19 vaccines.
