Police Blotter for the week of May 9

HURON – Below is a summary of Huron Police reports from between May 9 to May 15.

On May 9 at 7:57PM, a woman police arrived at a Cleveland Road apartment for a child custody dispute. A woman said that her husband, whom she has filed from divorce from, has not returned their kids, after having them for the weekend. She also said that she tried to contact them over the weekend, but to no success. Police told the woman that there was nothing they could do about this, because there was no custody arrangement in place, due to the pending divorce. The woman said that she didn’t believe that the kids were in danger.

On May 9 at 9:15PM, Lorain Police reported that they had a man with a warrant issued through Huron Municipal Court in custody. The man was later transported to the Erie County Jail.

On May 9 at 10:21PM, police arrived at a Tiffin Avenue house for a welfare check. The complainant said that, while he was on the phone with his daughter, he heard her and her mother arguing. Police arrived at the house and spoke with the mother. She said that her and her daughter did get into an argument; however, nothing physical took place. Police then spoke to the daughter, who said that same thing.

On May 9 at 10:27PM, police arrived at the Colonial Colony Apartments for a report of a man making suicidal threats. Police spoke to the man. He said that he didn’t remember making any suicidal comments, though did say that he was drinking. Police have the man speak to a mental health crisis assessor from the Firelands Crisis Hotline.

On May 10 at 10:01AM, police and fire arrived at a Cleveland Road apartment for a domestic dispute involving a suicidal individual. Police spoke to a man and a woman. The man asked police to shoot him. Police told him they wouldn’t do that. He then said that he would just slit his own throat with a butcher knife. After a conversation with police, the man agreed to be transported to Firelands Regional Medical Center, to speak with a mental health professional. The woman said that the two were drinking, and that led to an argument, in which the man threatened to harm himself.

On May 10 at 10:30AM, the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office reported that they have a man with an outstanding warrant from Huron Municipal Court in custody. Huron Police later pick up the man from the Lorain County Jail and transported him to the Erie County Jail.

On May 10 at 11:00AM, police arrived at RPM Automotive Repair and found drugs. The report states nothing further about the incident. Police spoke to a woman. She said that

On May 10 at 2:30PM, police arrived at Berardi’s Family Restaurant for a non-injury private property motor vehicle accident. Police spoke to a woman. She said that while she was driving her vehicle, she hit another vehicle in the passenger side rear tire area. There was no damage to the vehicle that was hit; however, the woman’s vehicle received a minor rub mark on the center of the bumper area.

On May 10 at 6:37PM, police arrived at a Wexford Drive house for a report of a man making suicidal comments. The complainant stated that a man who lives at the house made suicidal comments on an online chat room. At the house, police spoke to the man’s father. He said that his son was in the hospital from a car accident that morning and that his other son’s is picking him up from the hospital. Police the spoke to the brother via phone. He agreed to bring the man to the police station, after he was released from the hospital. At the station, the man said that he most likely made the comments the night before. He also said that he memory was foggy from the accident. The brother said that he would take him for a mental health evaluation on the following day.

On May 10 at 9:14PM, police arrived at Knuckleheads Saloon for a report of an unresponsive man. Police found the man at the bar, unresponsive and breathing. The squad arrived a few minutes later and transported the man to Firelands Regional Medical Center.

On May 11 at 12:17PM, police arrived at a Mudbrook Road house for an identity theft. A man said that on May 6, he received a voicemail from St. Rita’s hospital in Lima, regarding a recent visit that allegedly occurred on May 4. Approximately an hour later, the man’s primary care doctor called him in regards of the alleged visit. On May 11, the man said he received another voicemail from an alleged company called First Source. First Source claimed they could assist him with paying the hospital bill. The man said that he never went to the listed hospital for any reason on the dates in question. After listening to the voicemails, police able to confirm what the man told them. They gave him resources.

On May 11 at 6:09PM, police arrived at a Mudbrook Road house for a report of a dog biting another dog. A woman said that her dog, a Shih Tzu, was bitten by a small dog owned by neighbor. She said that the incident took place while she was walking her dog. She said that the neighbor’s dog latched onto her dog still biting it as she lifted her dog in the air. She eventually was able to free her dog and run home. The woman also said that her husband spoke to the dog’s owner. She said that she didn’t want him charged and just wanted the incident on record, due to his dog attacking her dog a month ago.

On May 12 at 8:02AM, police arrived at Firelands Montessori Academy for a minor private property motor vehicle accident. A woman said that while she was parked, in front of the school, the vehicle in front of her backed into her vehicle. The driver of that vehicle said he didn’t see the woman’s vehicle. He did accept responsibility for it and agreed to pay for the damage to the woman’s car. The damage was only an impression on the bumper.

On May 12 at 10:32AM, a woman told police that called CLE Transportation that she has received about 30 suspicious phone calls from various people and numbers about the location of a package. She said that when she questions the callers, they disconnect the call. Sometime they will say that they’re from FedEx, UPS, or the USPS. She also reported the called to the Cleveland FBI.

On May 12 at 2:34PM, police arrived at Huron High School for a private property crash. Two students were involved in the crash. Both students said that the incident took place when the first student was pulling through the parking lot and the second student backed out of a parking space and struck the first student’s vehicle. The first student’s vehicle sustained a moderate sized dent to the passenger side rear quarter panel. The second student’s vehicle had no damage.

On May 12 at 3:38PM, police arrived at a Creekside Drive house for physical domestic violence. When police arrived, they were met by three boys and one woman. Police were directed that one of the boys and the woman were involved. The boy, who is the woman’s son, said that him and his friends noticed that his mother wasn’t acting normal. When he told her this, she began arguing with him. She then put her hands around his neck. He told the other two boys to leave. One of the boys took a video of the incident, and it backed up the boy’s story. The woman, who appeared to be intoxicated, was charged with domestic violence. She was later released on bail to a woman. The boy later left the house with his father.

On May 12 at 7:37PM, police arrived at a Billetter Drive apartment for a welfare check. The complaint said that the man who lives there missed an appointment on May 11 and has not been answering phone calls. The man told police that he was fine.

On May 12 at 10:45PM, police arrived at a Cleveland Road apartment for a welfare check. The complaint said that her juvenile friend’s mother was possibly highly intoxicated. Police were able to determine that the woman was fully capable of taking care of herself and others.

On May 13 at 12:25AM, police arrived at a Berlin Road apartment for a welfare check. When police arrived, they knocked on the door to no response. They were able to hear someone inside moaning in discomfort. The police then entered the apartment, through the door, which was unlocked. They found a woman in the bathroom. She said that she was having trouble breathing and was feeling dizzy. Police then requested the Fire Department’s assistance. They transported the woman to Firelands Regional Medical Center.

On May 13 at 8:31AM, police arrived at a Miami Place house for an animal at large. A woman said that a feline had been roaming her property. She said that it followed her sons home from the park the night before, and anytime she tried to chase it away, it would come back. Police walked the property, and were unable to find the feline. At 12:15PM, police were told that the feline had returned. This time, police were able to find the cat and get it into a cage. It was then transported to the Erie County Humane Society.

On May 13 at 1:05PM, police arrived at a Main Street house for property damage. A woman showed police that her plastic mail box was lying in the ground. Police found that the wood 4×4 was intact and that the leg bolt had been pulled free from the post. Police were able to temporarily secure the mailbox back to the post.

On May 13 at 1:40PM, police arrived at a Riverside Drive house for a possible break in. A man said that the overhead door to his detached garage was damaged during the night. Police found that the top panel of the four-panel door had dents and damage, from being pried open. Nothing appeared missing or out of place in the garage. A similar incident took place at this location earlier this year. After that incident, the man installed a motion sensor and light; however, he didn’t notice anything during this night.

On May 13 at 2:08PM, police arrived at St. Peter’s School for a report of a drone flying in the area. Police spoke to the principal. She said that in the past week, a drone was flying above the playground, with children on it, at about ceiling height. She said that the drone eventually landed on a car at Gathering Grounds Coffee Shop. She said that on this day, a drone was flying and hovering outside a second-floor window facing US6. Police told the principal to contact police if this occurs again. They also told her that attempts would be made to identify the operator; however, there is no record of any attempts being made.

On May 13 at 3:30PM, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office reported that they had a man who had two warrants from Huron Municipal Court in custody. The man was later transported to the Erie County Jail.

On May 13 at 7:45PM, police arrived at an Oakwood Avenue house for trespassing. A woman showed police a video of a boy, around 6-8 years old, kicking a cat. She also said that boy had been walking around the neighborhood unattended. Police spoke to the boy’s mother, who was staying at a transient rental property, and told her to tell her son not to go on the woman’s property.

On May 13 at 11:28PM, police arrived at a Richland Avenue house to pick up a man who had a warrant from Huron Municipal Court. The man was brought to the station, where he posted his partial bond. He was then returned to the house.

On May 14 at 2:00AM, the Ohio State Highway Patrol arrived at the police station to give a man a DataMaster test. The man refused the test and was charged with OVI. He was later released on bond.

On May 14 at 10:22AM, the city zoning inspector reported that they were out with a man who had a warrant through Huron Municipal Court. Police arrived at a Williams Street house to arrest the man. When he arrived at the station, court was in session. The man was then transferred to court, where he posted his bond.

On May 14 at 12:35PM, police arrived at a Cuyahoga Drive house to do a walk through. A woman said that when she left the house she armed the security alarm, and, when she returned, it was not armed. Nothing unusual was found in the house.

On May 14 at 12:59PM, police arrived at a Shore Drive house for a report of a vehicle striking property. A man, who was doing work on the house, said that a vehicle had hit his sign, while making a sharp turn. The man could not provide a description of the vehicle.

On May 14 at 3:18PM, police arrived at a Taylor Avenue house for a vehicle lockout. Police successfully unlocked the vehicle.

On May 14 at 4:58PM, a battery change light turned on in a police cruiser. The vehicle was taken to RPM Auto for service.

On May 14 at 6:20PM, a man arrived at the police station for a golf cart inspection. After a $25 fee was paid, police inspected the vehicle. After meeting all of the requirements, the owner was issued a copy of the form and an inspection sticker was placed on the vehicle.

On May 14 at 10:39PM, police arrived at a Cleveland Road house for a report of a female in and out of consciousness. Police found her to be alert and responsive. Squad then arrived and later transported her to the hospital.

On May 15 at 12:30AM, Huron Police, Perkins Police, and Sandusky Police arrived at Kalahari to assist the Erie County Sheriff’s Office with a large group of people fighting. Upon Huron Police’s arrival the involved had returned to their rooms and were no longer fighting.

On May 15 at 8:20AM, police arrived at the Comfort Inn for a report of a disturbance in a guest room. Several guests told police that there was a disturbance had been ongoing throughout the night in that room. Police were then told by guest that, when the involved were notified that the police were responding, they left quickly. The door to the room was found propped open and a check of the room confirmed the occupants had left with all of their belongings.

On May 15 at 9:33AM, a woman arrived at the police station to file a harassment charge. The woman was on the phone with her ex-boyfriend when she arrived. Police heard the ex-boyfriend utter a profanity laced tirade against the woman. The woman said that this is typical behavior for him and that she wants to stop all contact with him. Police told the ex-boyfriend to stop all contacts. He replied with saying that all Police Officers should go f*** themselves along with other profanities. Police gave the woman information on how to obtain a CPO.

On May 15 at 12:13PM, police arrived at a Main Street house to assist a woman with a message delivery. Police spoke with the woman, who showed signs of intoxication. She said that she would like police to tell her father that he is no longer allowed to come to her house. Police told the woman that her father is the one who currently cuts her grass and provides her with transportation; however, she did not care. Police also told her that if she invites him over, then the request would be void. She said she understood. Police contact her father and made him aware of the conversation.

On May 15 at 6:04PM, police observed three vehicles parked on the southbound lane of Rye Beach Road. There were multiple people standing around one of the vehicles. The group told police that the vehicle was disabled. At the owner’s request, Maags towing was dispatched to the scene.

On May 15 at 6:40PM, police arrived at a Bogart Road house for domestic violence. A man told police that a woman, who he had a protection order against, had struck him. The man only said that there was an argument. Police observed dried blood on the left side of his face near his eye. When police entered the house, they found the woman lying on a bedroom floor, with dried blood on her right hand. Police tried to speak with her; however, she was too intoxicated. Police then spoke to another woman who was inside the house. She said that she heard the two arguing, but didn’t witness any striking. The woman was charged with domestic violence (F4) and violation of a protection order (F3).

On May 15 at 10:31PM, police arrived at the Comfort Inn for a noise complaint from a guest room. When police arrived, woman who was staying there told them that her son had severe autism and had an abnormal episode. She said that after trying to calm him down in the room, she took him out to her car. Police were able to observe him in her car. She said that she was going to check out. Police spoke to the complaint who said that he called police because he heard screaming from a room for two hours.
