Ohio to end Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program on June 26

COLUMBUS – Governor Mike DeWine announced Thursday that Ohio will be ending the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program on June 26.

The program currently gives the unemployed $300 per week. The program started in April 2020, with it giving $600 per week. When the original legislation ended, it was lowered down $300 per week. The current legislation is scheduled to go till September 4, thought many states have chosen to end it early.

“When this program was put in place, it was a lifeline for many Americans at a time when the only weapon we had in fighting the virus was to slow it’s spread through social distancing, masking, and sanitization.,” Governor DeWine said Thursday. “That is no longer the case. That is no longer our only tool in this fight. This assistance was always intended to be temporary.”

Regular state unemployment will still be available.
