Police Blotter for the week of April 11

HURON – Below is a summary of Huron Police reports from between April 11, 2021 to April 17, 2021.

On April 11 at 12:38AM, police arrived at the Sand Bar for a report of an alarm. The building was checked and found to be secure.

On April 11 at 11:48AM, Sandusky Police said they had a man in custody who has a warrants issued from Huron Municipal Court.

On April 11 at 9:23PM, police arrived at a Richland Avenue house for a suspicious person. A woman said that when she went into her living room, she saw that she saw a person standing outside her window. She said that she didn’t get a description of the person, because they ran off. She said that her garage. The garage was then checked, and found nothing out of the ordinary was found.

On April 12 at 9:51AM, police arrived at a Beachside Lane house for an Egret that was stuck in fishing line and hanging from a tree branch. Police located the Egret. It was suspended over the water with fishing line braided around its wing and contacted the fire department. The fire department then freed the Egret from the fishing line.

On April 12 at 11:46AM, police arrived at Pied Piper for a vehicle lockout. Police successfully unlocked the vehicle.

On April 12 at 3:30PM, police arrived at Superior Street for excessive dirt and debris in the roadway. The dirt appeared to be coming a home that was under construction. The contractor and homeowner said that they would remove the dirt from the roadway.

On April 12 at 3:30PM, a person arrived at the police station with a dog that they located. Police then took possession of the dog. A short time later, the dog’s owner arrived at the station and picked up the dog.

On April 13 at 9:12AM, police arrived at a Riverside Drive house for a death. A man said that his father was laying on the bathroom floor. The fire department determined the he had died. Foster Funeral Home responded to the house to pick up the body. There were no signs of foul play.

On April 13 at 11:37AM, police arrived at a Laurel Drive house for a parking complaint. A man said that he was concerned with a commercial truck that was parked with cones surrounding it opposite his driveway. He said that because of the positioning of the cones, he was unable to back-out of his driveway. When the driver of the truck returned, an argument arose between the two. Police the spoke to the driver who said that he was there because his employer, Petty Farms, follows the Mid Ohio Pipeline crews, to repair the areas in which they work. He then apologized for the inconvenience and moved the truck.

On April 13 at 12:08PM, police arrived at Goodwill for a disorientated driver. An employee said that she heard a vehicle trying to be started up. When she went out to check on the driver, the driver appeared to be incoherent. Police were spoke to the driver, who was now able to answer questions and appeared coherent. The driver said that she believes that she blacked out, as she had done once before. Police contacted the driver’s daughter, who drove her home. Police filed a Request for Driver License Examination or Recertification for the driver.

On April 14 at 12:21AM, police assisted the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Erie County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol in a pursuit. The vehicle involved in the pursuit, a Ford F-150, was traveling at a speed of approximately 100MPH. Huron Police assisted by putting stop sticks down. This slowed the vehicle down to approximately 65MPH. The pursuit ended at around 1:50AM in Lakewood. At the time, the driver exited the vehicle. At around 3:30AM, the driver was found and arrested.

On April 14 at 12:05PM, a woman came into the station to report that she was being harassed by a woman on Facebook Messenger. The woman said that the harassment had be going on for several years. Police called the alleged harasser and told her to not make contact with the complaint. Police also said the same thing to the complaint. The two also blocked each other Facebook.

On April 14 at 12:38PM, police arrived at a Firwood Drive house for a welfare check. A man said that his neighbor suffers from dementia and tried to get into his house. While police were talking to the man, the neighbor’s caretaker came out and began arguing. She had the neighbor’s wife came out. She said that the reason why the neighbor left his house was because he was angry. Police then left and contacted Adult Services, due to the number of times police have been at the house.

On April 14 at 3:35PM, police arrived at the Huron Public Library for a vehicle lockout. Police successfully unlocked the vehicle.

On April 15 at 1:38AM, police arrived at a Glenview Drive house for an alarm. The exterior of the building was checked and found to be secure. The homeowner later arrived home. Police then checked the interior of the house, and nothing was out of place or missing.

On April 15 at 7:35AM, police arrived at an Atwood Place house for a welfare check. The anonymous complainant said that he texted with a woman online. The woman threatened to harm herself with a knife. Police were unable to contact the woman while they were at her house. They also left a voicemail on a woman who lives at the house. Police then called the complaint. He said that he had been texted with the woman on a dating app for about three months. He said that at around 3AM, the woman said that if he didn’t send her gift cards, then she’d harm herself. Police then received a call back from the woman who lives at the house. She said that the woman whom with the man was texting with doesn’t live at the house.

On April 15 at 10:05AM, police arrived at the Huron Chamber of Commerce for a fraud complaint. A woman said that people had been calling the chamber complaining that, after while inquiring about the Lakefront Market, people messages received back were rude. The woman said that the messages were not from the Chamber. She also said that upon further investigation, she found comments on the page telling people how to pay for space at the Lakefront Market; however, the PayPal account used in comments was fraudulent. She said that the Chamber will continue to monitor the page.

On April 15 at 3:45PM, the Wood County Sheriff’s Office reported that they had a man in custody who had a two warrants issued from Huron Municipal Court.

On April 15 at 4:33PM, police arrived at a Surf Drive house for a vehicle lockout. Police successfully unlocked the vehicle.

On April 16 at 1:00AM, police arrived at a Berlin Road to assist the rescue squad. A woman said that her husband was having a change in his mental status. The husband agreed to be transported by the Huron Squad to Firelands Regional Medical Center.

On April 16 at 1:35PM, a Huron High School student reported to the school resource officer that damage had been done to the driver’s side door of her car, while she was parked in the student lot. No vehicles were found near the car; however, the student said that a black SUV was parked next to her in the morning.

On April 16 at 2:41PM, police arrived at a Cleveland Road apartment for a fraud complaint. A woman said she received a check made out to her and directions on how to cash it. The woman said that she knew this a scam and didn’t follow any of the directions.

On April 16 at 3:10PM, police arrived at a Glenview Drive house for a golf cart inspection. After a $25 fee was paid, police inspected the vehicle. After meeting all of the requirements, the owner was issued a copy of the form and an inspection sticker was placed on the vehicle.
On April 16 at 3:30PM, a man called the police department asking for a welfare check on his wife, who is currently living at Admiral’s Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation. The man said that he has not spoken with his wife in a few weeks, due to the nursing home blocking him from speaking with his wife. Police then went to the nursing home, where the spoke with the facility administrator. The facility administrator said that the husband had been blocked from visiting the nursing home, due to him sending harassing packages and constantly calling. She also said that due to several Adult Protective Services complaints and concerns, the wife’s guardianship has been transferred to her daughter. She then said that, at the request of the guardian, the husband isn’t allowed to visit or make contact with the nursing home. Police check up on the wife, and she appeared happy and said that she enjoyed living there.

On April 17 at 2:56PM, police arrived at a Cleveland Road apartment building for a domestic violence complaint. When police arrived and were in the parking lot, they could hear yelling coming from an apartment. Police then went to the apartment when they believed they heard the yelling from. A woman answered the door and said that she just woke up. When police told her that they heard yelling coming from the apartment, she said that she was arguing with someone on the phone. Another officer then said that he saw a man running from the building, across Cleveland Road West, almost getting hit by a car. Police then asked the woman again who she was arguing with. She said the name of the man. She said that he then entered the apartment and began yelling at her. She said that that escalated into him throwing her up against the wall. She said that he then locked her in and jumped off the third-floor balcony. The man was charged with Domestic Violence (F4) and Obstructing Official Business (M2).

On April 17 at 5:22PM, police arrived at the Mallard Run Apartments for a domestic violence report. A man said that heard loud arguing coming from the apartment above him. He said that he then heard a loud thud, followed by what he thought sounded like the man hitting the woman. He said that he told the apartment manager. He then saw the man outside the apartment loudly knocking on the door. He said that after the man saw him, he ran away. Police then went to the apartment and spoke to the woman, who had red blotchy skin. She said that the incident started when she told the man, who lives there, to leave. On she said that he grabbed her and dragged her to the front door. She also said that the man slapped her. While police were speaking to the woman, they were alerted by that the man had just returned to the parking lot. Police then went out there and arrested the man for domestic violence. He denied having committed any offense. The man was later released on bail. When he was police escorted him to the apartment to get his belonging. They told him not to contact the woman or visit the apartment until the court lifts his bond conditions. They also told the woman how to get a longer form of protection.
