1 killed, 1 hospitalized following crash on 250

MILAN – One man was killed and another was hospitalized following a crash Monday morning on U.S. Route 250, south of State Route 113.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when a 2020 Chevy SUV that was driving southbound on U.S. 250 went left of center striking a 2012 GMC pickup truck that was driving northbound. The GMC then went off the west side of the roadway and struck a cement barrier.

The driver of the GMC, Shawn Martz, 36, of Norwalk, was wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash and was transported to Fisher Titus Emergency Room in Norwalk with unknown injuries.

The driver of the Chevy, Michael Opfer, 60, of Sandusky, was not wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Patrol says the crash remains under investigation.
