Huron Board of Education President passes away

HURON – Huron Board of Education President John P. Jones passed away early Sunday morning while surrounded by loved ones at Stein Hospice.

Jones had been a member of the Huron Board of Education since being elected in the November 2019 General Election and was elected for a second four-year term in the November 2023 General Election.

The Board will now need to appoint an individual to serve a portion of Jones’ unexpired term.

Before serving on the Board of Education, Jones was actively involved in serving his hometown of Huron in many ways, including serving as a director at the Huron Playhouse and filling the remaining term of a vacant seat on Huron City Council in 2019. He spent most of his professional career in Florida as a recycling coordinator and also worked as a substitute teacher in Florida and Huron.

Jones was 68.
