Pedestrian hospitalized after being struck by car

CASTALIA – A 65-year-old woman was life-flighted to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after she was struck by a car while walking.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at the intersection of Main Street and North Washington Street in Castalia. The Patrol says Mary Beltz was walking southbound in the crosswalk at the intersection, when a 2018 GMC Acadia failed to yield while turning left and struck her.

Beltz suffered serious injuries due to the crash and was flown from the scene to Saint Vincent Hospital in Toledo.

The driver of the GMC Acadia, Lindsay Troike, 38, of Vickery, and a juvenile passenger did not suffer any injuries.

Alcohol and drug use are not believed to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
