Huron Board of Education offices to move to BGSU Firelands

HURON – Following the closure and sale of Shawnee Elementary, the Huron City Schools Board of Education offices will be relocated to the Cedar Point Center at BGSU Firelands.

In a letter to parents, Superintendent Dr. James Tatman, says the move will be temporary until space at Huron High School can be restructured for offices. Student services and enrollment offices have already been relocated to the High School.

Citing declining enrollment and the physical quality of the building, the Board of Education voted to close Shawnee Elementary in December 2022 and consolidate the district into three school buildings. Starting with the 2023-2024 school year, pre-K to fifth grade will be at Woodlands, sixth grade to eighth grade will be at McCormick Junior High, and ninth grade to twelfth grade will continue to be at Huron High School.

The former elementary school building was sold in an online auction for $1.6 million in July. The sale is expected to close in September.
