Multiple charged with underage alcohol consumption over July 4th weekend

HURON – 11 adults between the ages of 18 and 20 were charged with underage alcohol consumption in two separate incidents over the July 4th weekend.

According to police reports, the first incident occurred Monday night when deputies from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Knight Road house for a report of several individuals setting off fireworks and possibly consuming alcohol underage. The report states deputies observed several individuals on the property, along with numerous empty twelve-once beer cans and a partially consumed handle of vodka.

The report states all of the individuals on the property agreed to take portable breath tests, and seven registered with alcohol on their breath. The seven individuals, who were under the age of 21, allegedly admitted to consuming alcohol that evening and were then charged with underage alcohol consumption, a third-degree misdemeanor.

A few hours later, officers from the Huron Police Department responded to a By-The-Shores Drive house for a noise complaint for a report of possible underage drinking. The report states when officers arrived, several individuals took off on foot. At the property, according to the report, officers observed several open and empty alcohol cans and bottles.

Six individuals, who were aged 18 or 19, remained at the property and allegedly admitted that they consumed alcohol. They were then charged with underage alcohol consumption.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The police reports and original version of this article stated the charge was a first-degree misdemeanor. Ohio Revised Code was updated earlier this year, and the charge has been adjusted to a third-degree misdemeanor.
